WHAT PEOPLE SAY
FAQ’s
How much is my wood flooring going to cost?
Wood flooring Lanarkshire can vary between £40 to £100 per sq. m.
For example, the cost of flooring for a room of roughly 4m x 5m would be as follows:
Based on a collection from the wood range: Supply, fit, floor preparation – cost around £1360
What are the main things to bear in mind?
When buying wooden floors, you need to consider a 10%+ variance for cuts and wastage.
Please don’t be surprised if the amount of flooring ordered exceeds the size you are enquiring about.
Wood flooring is charged per box and the excessive amount depends on the box size.
What other costs are associated when buying a new wood floor?
Floating wooden floors require additional underlay to be purchased separately. Underlay comes in different thicknesses and types but most of the time the subfloor would define the type needed.
Skirting boards and beading are also offered as a way to finish a room alongside door bars. These items all vary in price, usually between £3 to £20 per linear meter.
We charge £25 plus VAT to trim doors and adapt them to the new flooring should the new wood floor be thicker than the original.
What do we mean by finishing off the edges of the new wood floor?
When choosing a wood floor, an expansion gap is needed to allow room for the board to swell. The gap will then be covered by beading or the skirting board. Beading is available in multiple colours to match the floor but some customers order white to match their skirting boards. The only exclusion here is when laying a dry back LVT as it is glued down and can be finished/cut in line with the skirting boards.
How do I pay for my new wood floors?
Initially a 50% deposit is required to secure the order and all accessories. The outstanding balance would is due on the day of completion. We accept bank transfers (preferably), cash in the showroom and card payments both in the showroom and over the phone.
Why is the subfloor important?
When laying a hardwood floor, it is very important for the subfloor to be as flat and smooth as possible – this will improve the durability of the new wooden floor. In terms of subfloor preparation, a layer of plywood or self levelling concrete on top of the wooden floorboards may be necessary.
Engineered or solid wood - what are the differences and which one is better?
The Engineered wooden board consists of different layers put on top of each other with the top layer called the wear layer. The market offers a great variety of wear layer thicknesses, widths and lengths as well as a huge variety of wood finishes. It is important to enquire how thick the wear layer is as some retailers do not describe this and consideration should be given to sanding and restoring periodically. Engineered wood generally has a stronger structure and longer durability than that of solid wood.
An RL description denotes random length, meaning that the wooden boards are not cut to a particular length and will vary.
Does the room need to be empty in order lay new flooring?
Yes, ideally the room would be free of furniture as this can speed up the process and will help to avoid unwanted damage to the decor or the furniture. If you would struggle to empty the room, please let us know in advance and we can make additional arrangements to assist, additional charges may apply.
Should I decorate before or after my new flooring is fitted?
We would advise to decorate prior to having a new floor fitted but be prepared for minor touch ups which are necessary on a rare occasion. At Avoca Flooring we are a very professional and highly regarded company with a strong track record for fitting with no requirements for touch ups however the nature of the work may require it.
Is there a warranty on the wood floor?
Warranty varies by the manufacturer of the particular product chosen. This can be discussed with the team at Avoca Flooring by calling or visiting the showroom.
Where does the company name come from?
I wanted to have a unique name to stand out from the crowd. I initially tried to work out a name with the initials of my family but could not find anything catchy. I used to live in Bondi in Australia and there was an Avoca Street near where I used to live so I just went for that.
